When Safe Havens Become Systemic Failures
They say Canberra is a safe haven, and for some, that’s precisely the problem.
As reported today by The Sydney Morning Herald, members of the ACT chapter of the Finks outlaw motorcycle gang have been using the nation’s capital as a base to infiltrate the construction industry.
Their labour-hire business, Safe Hands Group, has even secured subcontracting work on taxpayer-funded projects like the expansion of Canberra’s light rail.
Yet, none of this surprises me.
I’ve seen what happens when those tasked with oversight turn a blind eye. I’ve lived the consequences of a system that punishes truth-tellers and enables organised power.
We’re told the CFMEU is finally under administration. We’re told state authorities are “trying” to clean things up. But behind the press releases and public inquiries, many of us have been screaming into the void for years.
I was called paranoid. Unstable. Delusional.
All for noticing what others refused to name.
Let’s be clear: this is not just about bikies in hi-vis. It’s about the ecosystem that allows them to flourish. An ecosystem of cowardice, corruption, and calculated inaction.
Where were the checks when Safe Hands Group was hired for government work?
Where was the political will to root out criminal influence before it took hold?
Where is the accountability now?
This isn’t infiltration. It’s institutional failure, by design.
I started The Reckoning Room to speak to these patterns. To connect the dots between personal trauma and systemic rot. So when stories like this break, they’re not just headlines. They’re confirmation, and validation.
